Psychological expertise for complex clinical work, teams and services

I provide clinical consultation for clinicians, teams and organisations working with complex, high-risk or emotionally demanding clinical work.

Organisations often seek consultation when there is no simple answer, when teams feel stuck, responses have become inconsistent, risk is difficult to hold, or a service is trying to develop a more psychologically informed approach.

My role is to bring an experienced psychological perspective, helping people step back, make sense of what is happening and identify thoughtful, practical ways forward.

When Clinical Consultation May Be Useful

Clinical consultation may be helpful when:

  • a team is repeatedly getting stuck with a complex individual or presentation
  • there are different views within a team about how best to respond
  • risk, safeguarding or professional boundaries are creating uncertainty
  • staff are being strongly affected by the work
  • relational dynamics are influencing clinical decision-making
  • a service wants to develop greater consistency in its clinical approach
  • a new service, pathway or model of care would benefit from psychological input
  • an organisation wants an experienced external perspective on a clinical issue

The aim is not to provide a ready-made answer, but to create enough space to think carefully, consider different perspectives and develop greater clinical clarity.

Outcomes of Consultation

Depending on the context, consultation may help teams develop:

  • clearer clinical thinking
  • greater confidence in professional judgement
  • a more shared understanding of complex presentations
  • greater consistency in responses
  • clearer boundaries and decision-making
  • a more considered approach to risk and uncertainty
  • practical next steps that feel workable within the service

Individual & Group Supervision

Clinical supervision is a substantial part of my work.

I provide individual and group supervision for clinicians working across NHS and independent settings, including EMDR consultation and CBT supervision.

Supervision may include formulation, treatment planning, risk, therapist responses, professional development and the challenges involved in remaining thoughtful and effective in demanding clinical work.

My approach is relational and clinically grounded, combining support with appropriate challenge.

Training & Professional Development

I provide training and CPD for clinicians, supervisors and teams in areas including trauma, complex presentations, therapist resourcing, relational practice and clinical thinking.

My training is designed to be practical, thoughtful and closely connected to the realities of clinical work.

I aim to create learning spaces that help clinicians not only understand ideas, but apply them with greater confidence and clarity in practice.

Collaborative Clinical Projects

I am also interested in projects where psychological expertise can contribute to the development of a service, clinical resource, training programme or health-related product.

My contribution is primarily clinical and psychological. This may include:

  • contributing to the clinical thinking underpinning a service or model of care
  • reviewing psychologically informed content or resources
  • helping translate psychological ideas into practical ways of working
  • supporting teams to develop greater consistency in clinical approaches
  • contributing to staff training or implementation
  • providing an external psychological perspective during the development of a new initiative

I am particularly interested in collaborative work where an organisation already has operational, technical or subject-specific expertise and would benefit from an additional psychological perspective.

Why Work With Me

My work is grounded in almost two decades of experience across NHS, forensic, charitable, academic and independent settings.

A substantial part of my current practice involves supervising clinicians across NHS and independent services, alongside continued clinical work with complex presentations.

This keeps my work closely connected to the realities of practice, including uncertainty, risk, relational dynamics, emotional demands and the wider systems in which clinicians and teams are working.

The C.A.R.E.S. Model™

I am the founder of the C.A.R.E.S. Model™, Connect, Attune, Resource, Establish Boundaries and Settle.

C.A.R.E.S. grew from my clinical and supervisory work and reflects my interest in what helps clinicians remain present, relationally attuned, appropriately boundaried and clinically clear in demanding work.

The model informs aspects of my supervision, training and consultation, while continuing to develop as a distinct framework in its own right.

Ways of Working

Depending on what is needed, I can offer:

  • one-off clinical consultation
  • ongoing team consultation
  • individual or group supervision
  • training and CPD
  • project-based clinical consultation
  • collaborative advisory input

The format can be tailored to the needs of the clinician, team or organisation.

Who I Work With

I welcome enquiries from:

  • mental health services
  • NHS and independent healthcare providers
  • residential and care organisations
  • charities and third-sector organisations
  • clinical and multidisciplinary teams
  • organisations supporting staff in demanding care environments
  • health and digital-health organisations seeking psychological input

Scope of Consultation

Consultation is tailored to the needs of the clinician, team or organisation and is designed to complement, rather than replace, local clinical governance, safeguarding procedures and statutory responsibilities.

Initial Consultation

Organisational work can begin with an initial conversation to understand:

  • the clinical context
  • the challenges currently facing the team or service
  • what has already been tried
  • what you would like the work to help achieve

From there, we can consider whether a one-off consultation, training, team support or a more sustained piece of work would be most useful.

You do not need to have a fully formed brief before getting in touch.

Let’s Talk

If you are looking for clinical consultation, supervision or training for your team or organisation, or would like to explore whether psychological input could support a developing project, I would be happy to discuss what you are looking for and whether I may be able to help.
